We have long spoken about finding an opportunity to share our message with another church in another community. That opportunity has arrived, and that other church is coming to us. When? This Sunday, March 4. At least one family from the Protection United Methodist Church will join us during Sunday school to discuss our successes (and failures) in our fight against poverty. We may need to think about how such a discussion might be structured:
Food pantry and clothing closet ministry
Literacy efforts
Youth ministry
Clothing projects--shoes and coats
School supplies
Assessment incentives
Fundraising
We can't discuss it all, but we can let our guests choose from our menu of options. This can guide us during the Sunday school hour, and we can continue our discussion at lunch following morning worship.
Did I forget to mention lunch? We are Methodists, after all, so there will be food. We're thinking chicken and noodles. Here's what we've dreamt up so far:
Leanne will prepare two chickens.
Ryan will prepare one hen and take care of noodles.
Carrie (who doesn't know this yet) will be asked to provide green beans for 30 people.
Nicole (who again doesn't know this) will be asked to prepare rolls.
Karen will provide a vegetarian soup alternative for herself and possibly Pastor Kelvin and Donna. She will also provide a dessert.
Andi (one of our guests) will bring a chocolate sheet cake.
We will prepare potatoes while the noodles boil. Yes, they will be instant.
Others are encouraged to pitch in with relishes, paper goods, tea, or whatever else sounds good.
Groceries can be charged to the class account at Satanta Grocery using our account number. Check with Ryan if you don't know what that number is.
Thank you all for willingness to show hospitality to our visitors!
