Hey Ryan -
I talked with Doreen @ Grace Med the Monday after our
meeting. Doreen is also involved in Kansas Leadership Center so she
immediately applauded your efforts. Grace Med does dental outreach
but due to the proximity, supports Amber Sellers by providing her with
equipment in western Ks. And... Amber is also affiliated with KS
leadership center! So here are two phone numbers for those girls.
Doreen @ Grace Med: 316.866.2053
Amber Sellers with GraceMed dental equipment @ 316.204.1769
Again, Amber would probably be your first contact.
Then, I got to visiting with Doreen and asking about the medicine
provision that Grace Med offers. She put me in touch with Jonathan
Borrego ( jborrego@gracemed.org or at the Grace Med phone # above).
Jonathan turned me on to a website: www.needymeds.org
In your health fair (day of service) you could have someone stationed
at a net enabled PC and help people by printing coupons off this site or
helping them complete the application process. Every drug/drug
company has their app embedded in the listing. Very easy to navigate
the site. I would encourage you to go on this site and check it out.
I was very impressed.
Other activiites we see being done on
'Day of Service' offerings are sports physicals. You may have to work
ahead by setting appointments but it gets rave reviews. Also,
medical card enrollments.... used to be HealthWave.
Had
lunch with KS Leadership Center and Sue Dondlinger does believe that if
you come up with a proposal of needs for funding, there would be some
grant monies available. Be sure to check with her.
SDondlinger@KansasLeadershipCenter.org
Hope you all are progressing toward success.

School Supply Project for 2012-2013 School Year
For the 2012-2013 school year, the
Satanta United Methodist Church will offer complete school-supply kits for
students in kindergarten through sixth grade (school supplies will not be
required of children in pre-school) at a cost of $15-$20 per kit as a service
to the community. These kits will meet the requirements of the school supply

students for whom they were purchased before the start of school.
Parents who are able to pay for these

Lorna Geist Conference Call
We had a very productive conference call this morning with Lorna Geist, our faith facilitator. In addition to asking us some of the tough questions we've been asking ourselves, like "How do we move from giving to the needy to transforming the lives of the poor?" we moved toward expanding our August 4, 2012, Back-to-School Day of Service to encompass more services from the health care field.
Tiffany, our health chairperson, will look into how the following organizations might help us to better serve the health needs of children (and families) in our community:
The Kansas Leadership Center
The Kansas Health Foundation
The United Methodist Health Fund
Grace Med
We will seek, in particular, to find information on grants available to us to help fund and broaden our Day-of-Service event. This search should also include United Methodist Mexican-American Ministries. It might also be productive to seek in the input and assistance of the Satanta District Hospital.
This new emphasis will a new element in our continuing efforts in education (books, school supplies, Russell Child Development etc. and personal care (hygiene, haircuts, clothing, family photos).
We will discuss details at our next class meeting and determine whether a face-to-face meeting with Lorna is the next step in the process.
